How to keep my t-shirts from pilling?

Modified on Sat, 18 Mar, 2023 at 3:34 AM

The most common cause of pilling is when two fabrics rub against each other. To prevent unsightly pilling on the outside of t-shirts, turn them inside out before throwing them into the washing machine, and before handwashing. The less movement your t-shirts makes during washing, the better.

Please follow the quick and easy tips listed below to prevent your T-shirt from pilling:

- Wash the T-shirt inside out by hand to get the best wash results. If you have to use the washing machine, please select the gentle setting and the least amount of time.

- Always use cold water. To cut down on abrasion, separate and wash clothes with similar fabric types together. Washing heavy items like jeans with a light sweater, for instance, can result in increased pilling.

- Avoid using the dryer, opt for hanging instead. However, to avoid fading, do not dry in direct sunlight. This minimizes agitation and will keep your t-shirts pill-free. During the warmer months, hang your t-shirts on an outdoor line to dry as quickly as possible. In winter, you can hang your t-shirts to dry inside, but keep a window slightly open and the room well-ventilated to avoid moisture buildup in the air.

Do not use bleach or harsh detergents, including fabric softeners. Try using a mild soap or detergent instead.
